    Mates Race - Round 3

Sep 18, 2019 by Ian Carruthers | This post may contain affiliate links.

Borz still not Racing round 3- Ellwood

So following on from round two in March, Borz racing mates race round three was held in June. At the height of the British summer Ellwood in the Forest of Dean saw the Borz out in force not racing for the rainbow strips.

The format was again made up of 4 stages, one rider on track at a time, timed with a good old fashioned stopwatch, no fancy timing chips here. Only having one rider at a time on track means the rest of the crew are free to support / heckle / offer advice, stop the use of perfectly legitimate cheat lines.

    Trails

So this round was set around Ellwood in the Forest of Dean using some of the off piste trail the forest has to offer.
    Stage 1: Slag Heap
    Stage 2: Long One
    Stage 3: Sam's
    Stage 4: Orion

    Borz race

Practice was a non stop loop of the stages, no sessioning and looking for cheeky lines, just a ride round for familiarisation on where to go. After a break for pop and cake it was race run time.

Again as in round two the weather seemed determined to get involved with the rain starting in the interval between practice and race runs. Lunch was spent sheltering under trees and van tails, so glad I got a tailgate. The rain did abate for the race runs, although they had added an uncertainty to the grip levels. The runs commence with the now usual frivolity, crashes, dubious lines and general good fun.

    Results

Again it's fair to say that I didn't win or even podium, not that I was expecting to. I always go into racing with the mindset of first finish, then don't come last. Well I've no idea what happened but no one finished behind me, for some reason my head just wasn't in the game. It wasn't I hadn't brought my A game, I think I'd just forgotten it was a race and was out for a Sunday afternoon ride instead. Still it's not all about the results, it's all about having a laugh and a cracking time, which is far more important, at least for me anyway!

Round Phoar the champs will take place in September, and se the newly crowned male champion show of his rainbow strips. The ladies championship goes down to the wire to be decided by the last race.
