    Uley, Cotswold mountain bike route

Oct 8, 2017 by Ian Carruthers | This post may contain affiliate links.

    Uley Bury Ancient Gulley

    Uley

The final descent back into Uley is a choice of two lines either flowing single track ending in a stepped descent or a full on blast down a gulley.

    Don't look down

This isn't a particularly long ride, it has it's ups and it's downs and some amazing views. Some of the ascents end up going along ridges, don't worry there are no precipices but it does lead to some stunning views. It starts with a road climb that is rewarded with the Dursley descent a mixture of single and double track the double track can be particularly muddy especially in winter. All the mud and climbing is worth it for the descent roots and rocks a plenty.

Climbing out of Uley towards Cam bring us to Cam peak and very uniform hill that looks most unnatural, climbing to the top of the hill is optional. Given the next section is a gravel climb on to a ridge which give views over the river severn. The ridge ends with a flat out field descent before a bit more road that leads to more rooty (muddy) single track watch the gate at then end.

Following some more field crossing there is a climb up Frocester hill, which features in the UK's top 100 road climbs. Having climbed the final hill we're rolling past Uley barrow and Uleybury hilfort before taking on the final descent.

This is a Wednesday night ride so it should now go without saying (if you follow the blog that is) that the ride starts and therefore finished at a pub. This time it's the Crown in Uley serving local ales and of course the mandatory cheesy chips.
