Shockwiz Suspension Tuning Device

Shockwizz Mounted on Pike Fork

ShockWiz  is an automated suspension tuning device for air-sprung forks and shocks on mountain bikes. Combining high-tech hardware with an intuitive smartphone app. Lightweight and durable, this powerful little device provides tuning recommendations for air pressure, spring rate, tokens, compression, and rebound. Quarq SRAM’s electronics arm brought the rights then refined and brought to market following a successful Kickstarter campaign.

Finding the perfect suspension is a process that takes trial and error. Properly dialing in your suspension lets you put your bike to work and allows you to ride terrain that may not be feasible. The ability to manipulate sag and spring rates is a big part of what makes riding hard so enjoyable but constant gear negotiation takes time away from your ride. That’s where ShockWiz comes into play, an automated suspension tuning device that passes recommendations via the intuitive ShockWiz app, offering the best adjustments for your riding style.

Data is collected 100 times a second, algorithms in the smartphone app downloaded gives suggestions about what needs changing to improve performance. Also gives airtime statistics so now those jumps are logged for bragging rights.

The unit itself is small and light, with power coming from a replaceable CR2032 watch battery, and it is protected by a rubber boot and sealed against the elements. Slots in the unit and rubber boot allow it to be attached to a fork crown, shock body or frame using zip ties.

Once you have the shockwizz attached to the shock or fork the first thing to do is to set it up to the parameters. The compression ratio and baseline air pressure need to be set up prior to riding. The compression ratio can be manually entered or alternatively there is a calibration wizard that measures it by cycling the suspension.

Haven ridden for long enough for the necessary data to be collected the app starts to make suggestions for improvements.

Six suggestions that are offered, air pressure, spacers, rebound – high and low speed, compression again both high and low speed. Suggestions are offered at two levels either way of OK, either a small adjustment or a larger adjustment. 5% or 10% for air pressure, 1-2 clicks or 3 + clicks for compression and rebound, then 1 token or 2 tokens for bottomless tokens.

Once the adjustments have been made it’s time to ride again and see if the changes have had the desired result. The suggestion are based on the riding you have been doing so if you ride on. So in order to get the best out of the Shockwizz riding the same conditions help otherwise you can be constantly changing settings back and forth.

Along with the suggestion of the adjustments required, the app also shows event detections that have happened. The detections are classified good, poor or bad.

You also get statistics from your riding showing mainly airtime and how many jumps you have done along with how much time you have been airborne. Unless you’re going to run your shockwiz all the time, which is probably not to be recommended, this is only an additional feature.
