Trails of the Cotswold way

The Cotswold Way is a 102-mile long-distance footpath that runs from Bath in the south to Chipping Campden in the north, crossing through some of the most picturesque countryside in England. While the trail is primarily designed for hikers, there are also some fantastic opportunities for mountain bikers to explore the area and take in the stunning scenery. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at some of the best mountain bike trails along the length of the Cotswold Way from Bath to Broadway.

Bath to Wotton-under-Edge

Starting in Bath, the Cotswold Way offers a challenging and scenic ride along the Cotswold escarpment. This section of the trail offers some of the most stunning views of the surrounding countryside, with the city of Bath and the River Avon visible from the top of the hills. The trail includes some steep climbs and descents, so it’s best suited for experienced riders.

Bathford Browns Folly

The trails in this section include Bathford, a shortish ride with some decent descents, Box, a mix of cross country with some rocky parts and Castle Combe as cross country ride.

Wotton-under-Edge to Dursley

From Wotton-under-Edge, the Cotswold Way heads towards the village of Dursley, passing through the beautiful woodlands and fields of the Cotswold Hills. This section of the trail is relatively flat and offers a more relaxed ride, with plenty of opportunities to take in the stunning scenery.

From rolling countryside at Hillesley and Uley to the more challenging trails at Dursley and Nibley.

Dursley to Painswick

The section of the trail from Dursley to Painswick is another challenging ride, with some steep climbs and technical descents. However, the effort is well worth it, as this section of the trail offers some of the most stunning views of the Cotswold Hills. Riders will pass through the picturesque villages of Nympsfield and Kingscote, with plenty of opportunities to stop and admire the views.

Cranham MTB trails

The Cotswold edge runs from Randwick through Painswick upto Cranham. It provides some truly excellent riding.

Painswick to Cheltenham

This section of the Cotswold Way offers a more gentle ride, with a mix of flat and hilly terrain. The trail passes through the town of Cheltenham, where riders can take a break and explore the town’s many shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Overlooking Cheltenham are the trails at Birdlip and Sheepscombe.

Cheltenham to Winchcombe

The section of the trail from Cheltenham to Winchcombe is a relatively easy ride, with some gentle climbs and descents. Riders will pass through the beautiful woodlands of Cleeve Hill and the charming village of Prestbury, before reaching the town of Winchcombe.

Winchcombe to Broadway

The final section of the Cotswold Way offers a challenging ride through some of the most stunning countryside in England. Riders will pass through the picturesque villages of Stanton and Snowshill, before reaching the town of Broadway. This section of the trail includes some steep climbs and technical descents, so it’s best suited for experienced riders.

The picturesque village of Snowshill provides another classic ride with stunning cotswold views.
