Loughrigg, the Langdales and Elterwater, Lake district mountain bike route

Grassmere

Wordsworth country

This ride takes in some pretty decent scenery starting off with views of Grassmere and helm crag moving on towards Windermere  before taking in the Langdales and returning to Elterwater.

It starts as most rides do with some road work in this case  fairly sharp climb out of Elterwater, this doesn’t last too long and the climb is rewarded with views of Grassmere. Dropping down onto Loughrigg terrace a free descent to Rydal water (watch for walkers, if you let rip). Climbing back up to Loughrigg tarn and then dropping down to Skelwith bridge were we rejoin the road for another climb, climbing up into the Langdales with views towards Coniston. Dropping past Hodge close see us heading toward little Langdale and some rocky climbs and descents, a little tricking when the character building lakeland rains come in. One final road stretch sees us back at the car ready for a cheeky pint and a plate of chips.
